Choices for buying cooking and enjoying fish

Wild Salmon There are six species of Pacific salmon - chum, coho, king (chinook), pink, sockeye and steelhead - and all are wild. Wild West coast salmon are harvested commercially in Washington, Oregon, Alaska and much of Canada. Smoked wild salmon is a delicious seafood item. The delicacy is simple to prepare and lends itself to a wide variety of dishes. Salmon is high in Omega-3 fatty acids which is well known as having health benefits. Studies have shown that smoked salmon has a very low level of mercury, unlike some other seafood. The Journal of American Medicine Association recently published a report stating that adding salmon at least once a week to your diet will cut the risk of sudden cardiac death in half. Tuna Tuna is consumed in a variety of ways. Tuna is the most well known and available fish in the USA and many other parts of the world due to it's popularity as a canned product. Most of us grew up on tuna salad sandwiches and associate that experience with tuna as a meal. Readers that have been lucky enough to enjoy fresh caught tuna know that there is quite a difference between a canned tuna salad sandwich and a fresh grilled tuna steak! Tuna is delicious grilled, blackened, or as sushi. Those of us that still love tuna salad can enjoy tuna from the can or use leftover grilled tuna to create a unique and delightful tuna salad with a unique flavor. Smoked fish lovers will be thrilled to know that tuna is excellent when smoked. The finished smoked product makes fish dips, salads or just eaten alone. Wahoo Wahoo are beautiful pelagic fish and are excellent table fare. Wahoo live in the open ocean and are common along much of the USA and Caribbean. Wahoo should be rinsed well and then the fillets can be removed from the body. The flanks can then be cut into steaks with the skin on or the entire sections can be skinned before cutting into steaks. Wahoo is delicious grilled, fried or smoked. Fresh wahoo are available in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Hawaii and other areas. Mahi Mahi Mahi Mahi, also known as dorado or dolphin fish are fast growing, pelagic fish. Mahi Mahi are among the most beautiful of all fish. The meat is mostly white with a high content of oil. Mahi Mahi is best grilled or smoked. Fresh Mahi Mahi is available in states such as Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Hawaii and others. Other areas of the country can enjoy this fish as a frozen product or fresh via overnight shipment. Striped Bass Cooks have a variety of favorites for cooking rockfish. Whole fillets of school sized fish or steaks of larger fish are delicious fried. Other choices for cooking striped bass include grilling, broiling, fish cakes and more. For top quality striped bass or "rockfish" as table fare, it's important to take care of the fish prior to cooking. The fish should be chilled on ice and laid out flat until cleaned. Once the fish is home, it can be rinsed thoroughly and filleted. Several cleaning methods exist and each angler learns their favorite style. The fish can be scaled and the skin left on, filleted and then skinned or the skin can be cut around the perimeter of the fish and pulled off with pliers. The skin-on version is nice when baking or grilling smaller fish. Skinning the fish before filleting has some advantages, the most important being speed. Filleting the fish and then cutting the skin off removes the most dark meat and leaves the highest quality portion, although some fish is lost in the process. Black Sea Bass Black Sea Bass are excellent table fare. The meat is firm, white and delicious. Sea Bass are superb fried, grilled, baked or broiled. Sea Bass are easily skinned and filleted. Black sea bass are common along the Atlantic coast from New York to North Carolina. They are best fresh. The fish do not freeze well. Grouper Grouper is among the most popular fish in the Southern USA. Grouper is a premium fish harvested from the Gulf of Mexico and southern Atlantic Ocean. While individual species have unique identifiable characteristics, they are commonly described as lean, white flesh fish with a taste and texture which is popular and distinct from many other white fish. Tilapia Tilapia have gone from being an obscure fish to one of the most popular fish in many cultures. Tilapia are the second most important group of farm raised fish in the world. Tilapia has been introduced in over 100 countries. Tilapia farming and consumption are rapidly increasing in the US. Tilapia are a good source of protein and is now the fifth most popular seafood consumed in the United States.

Quiche tupperware recipe

Tupperware recipes are very popular, although you may never have known you were enjoying one of them. Think back to those delicious Chocolate Lemon Tarts you ate at the last office party. They were mixed and baked in Tupperware, using a Tupperware recipe. Slip back to last Saturday when your neighbor invited your family over for Burrito Frittatas. You didn’t know that was a Tupperware recipe either, but you enjoyed it. Over the years, Tupperware recipes have served many guests at Tupperware parties. Then Tupperware began to publish their recipes on cards. Beverages, breads, desserts, main courses, salads, and dressings – there was a Tupperware recipe for every part of a meal. Since all of their recipes were developed exclusively for the company, the cards have become collectors’ items, and are sometimes difficult to find. A few are available on Internet auction sites, or a Tupperware consultant may be able to help you find what you need. Tupperware recipes are also now available in cookbooks. Two Quiche Tupperware Recipes Tupperware recipe cards offered two quiche recipes in recent years. 1. Simply Delicious Quiche - Seq.# 4703 was among the “Taste of Tupperware Recipe Cards - Summer 2003”. 2. Rice Crusted Quiche - Seq.# 4004 was featured in “Taste of Tupperware Recipe Cards – Spring Summer 2006” Tupperware quiche recipes are simple and easy, like all Tupperware recipes, planned for completion in the time it takes to have a party. Sadly, the official recipes for quiche cannot be shared online without permission. In lieu of those mentioned above, let me give you a quiche recipe that has been shared among Tupperware consultants. Impossible Quiche This recipe uses the following products. 1. “Quick Shake Container”: The domed seal has a hinged pour spout so you have space for mixing. A removable blender wheel blends as you shake. 2. “Thatsa Bowl”: Large mixing bowl with seal Make your Tupperware quiche as follows. 1. Into a Tupperware “QuickShake”, place 4 eggs, 1 and 1 half cups of milk, a teaspoon of mustard, salt, pepper, and tarragon to taste. Shake until well-blended. 2. In a Tupperware “Thatsa Bowl”, stir together 3 bacon rashes (chopped), a finely chopped medium onion, a cup grated cheese, and Ѕ cup of self-rising flour. 3. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and seal the bowl, expressing air completely. Shake well to mix. 4. Pour ingredients into any standard quiche dish, and bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes. If you prefer, you may microwave the quiche at 60% of power for 12 minutes. Additional Tupperware Recipes If you visit websites of individual Tupperware consultants, you will find many Tupperware recipes. Some consultants have posted entire “Taste of Tupperware” cookbooks for your use. Others have posted individual recipes, or created their own recipes that make good use of Tupperware products. I offer one more here, a tantalizing, quick Tupperware recipe for chicken. Quick and Easy Lemon Pepper Chicken This recipe uses a “Rock ‘N Serve Large Shallow” container: a special vent on this microwaveable piece lets steam escape while the seal stays on. You get even heating without splatters. Make your Lemon Pepper Chicken as follows. 1. Coat 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts with “Miracle Whip” and sprinkle with lemon pepper. 2. Place the chicken in a “Rock ‘N Serve Large Shallow”. Microwave on a high setting for 8 or 9 minutes. 3. Let stand, covered, for 2 more minutes to finish cooking. You will enjoy Tupperware recipes for their simplicity. You can save time and get good results, yet without sacrificing health. As for Tupperware products – well, you probably know how they save money and time. To me, they are a great investment.

Organic vs. processed foods

Organic foods are more popular than ever these days. But what do you know about them? Organic foods and processed foods are two of the types of fruits, vegetables, and meats that can be found in grocery stores these days. In relation to this, there are several labels that are used in order to determine how much processing food has gone through. One of the steps in determining how nutritious your lifestyle is knowing whether there is a difference in organic or processed foods. When food is organic, it means that no preservatives, added chemicals or other types of fertilizers and/or pesticides have been added to the food. The first is to prevent extra bacteria from growing on or in the food. The second is that more food can be produced for the consumer. If the food is being transported into a different area, these chemicals allow the food to last longer. Another method that is used is biotechnology and irradiation. These are becoming a standard procedure in killing pathogens while keeping foods fresher than they would have been otherwise. Another type of food that is often seen is organic that has had certain things done in order alter its content. Low-fat, whole-wheat, gluten-free and reduced-sodium are some of the popular labels that can be seen on processed foods. These foods may be organic, but have been processed in order to provide a different nutritional balance for your diet. Organic food, however, still has to meet certain criteria in order to be ready to buy. For instance, if the milk is not pasteurized, it may contain bacteria that are not healthy for the consumer and can cause problems. There are also some food producers that do not follow the USDA guidelines for organic food. The products may have pathogens even though they may be available in the grocery store. There are several different types of foods, all which have been processed to varying levels. Grocery stores offer these different levels of organic and processed foods to consumers. The history of wine is the history of man s thirst

For all the talk what “wine snobbery” does wine expertise come do to? In the end wine is nothing more than simply fermented fruit juice. And “rotten” or “fermented “fruit juice at that. The earliest evidence suggesting wine production comes from archaeological sites in Iran and Russian Georgia, dating from 6000 to 5000 B. C. (Before Christ). Wine has long been used as a safe storage form of precious water for human consumption, and for its use in religious and important cultural mores. Almost every culture and societal group on earth each somehow learnt to make simple alcoholic beverages. This is no mere accident. Humans early on learnt the psychological effects that alcohol provides . Along the way they learnt to like affect and desired and even craved these effects of alcohol. Wine is even generally considered as a sexual anaphrodisiac among many cultures. Today many important wine regions in Europe are proud of their wine histories which they date back all way to the early Roman era. Wine itself in the end can be sourced from any fruit juice – although most commonly known as the fermented liquid of crushed grapes. Wine of course can be derived from grapes, plums, peaches, pears and in the end most fruit juices. What about the different colors found in different varieties of wines. The color of the wine is the result of the length of time the skins remain with the juice doing the fermentation process. Basically wine comes in three colors - red ( reddish purple to light brown), whites ( whitish pale yellow to amber) and the mid range blush: which is of peach to light pink coloration. Should wine be sweet or not sweet that is “dry”? Most wines are naturally dry. “Sweetness occurs when the fermentation is interrupted before all of the sugar can be converted to alcohol during the fermentation process. The producer of the wine can also add unfermented grape juice or a sweetener such as liquid sugar to the wine during its manufacturing process. Most wines do not have extra alcohol added to them. That is they are in their “natural “or “virgin state”. These wines are referred to as not being fortified. That is they contain only the alcohol that was provided for in the fermentation process itself. However there are some wines – for example “Sherry”and “Port” are two wine family products that have their alcohol content enhanced and increased. This can be done in effect artificially and not by the normal standard fermentation process through the addition of straight alcohol to the wine. A kinder gentler means to adding alcohol to wine is to add distilled wine that is brandy to the wine. Lastly wines can be bubbly themselves or have no effervescence. In the first category are “Sparkling” which have effervescence. These wines are bottled in thick heavy – set bottles with wire bound corks to keep the pressure in , whereas “Still” wines are wines bottled without Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and therefore have no bubbliness or effervesce. Still wines can be found bottled in ordinary bottles with ordinary corks. In the end though it is safe to remember that wine is nothing more several different types of fruit juices , of different colors that is presented to you in different types of glasses , from different types of storage and transport containers which is presented to you to quench your thirst.
